How To Trust Your Golf Swing
If you've ever listened to any of the golf mental coaching gurus, one of the main things they say is to "trust your golf swing." That's a nice statement and a good idea but how exactly are you supposed to go about doing this? I see many coaches telling students to just trust their swing, but I don't see them say how to do this.
The key to trusting the golf swing in my opinion is to build a solid swing with proper technique. If you have a sound fundamentally strong golf swing, you'll hit better golf shots more often. Once you learn to hit good golf shots on a regular basis, you will build up your confidence naturally and be able to trust your golf swing.
When you are in a positive state and have solid swing mechanics, you're golf mental game will be much better. When golfers try to improve their golf games, they often can become too technical with their swing. Too much focus on technique and breaking the swing down into separate components can cause problems and interfere with the mental game.
Too many technical swing thoughts means their is too much left-brained or analytical thinking. In order to make sound, fluid golf swings, the whole brain needs to work together properly. This is why having thoughts about your target and maintaining good tempo will help improve your golf mental game. On the driving range, it's okay to become a little more technical as long as you can switch gears on the course and focus on making smooth swings and swinging towards the target.
