Learn How To Play Target Golf To Get The Most Out Of Your Golf Swing On The Golf Course

A great way to play golf out on the course is to play target golf. What this essentially means is you are focusing on your target and where you want to hit the golf ball instead of on your golf swing mechanics. It's good to work on technique on the driving range, but make sure you are blending proper golf swing feel and also focusing on your targets. This is very important on the golf course. For some reason, when there is the pressure of only getting one chance to hit a particular shot, it is much harder to think about technique and hit the ball well than if you think about feeling a good swing and where you want the golf ball to end up.

Your golf swing does not have to be perfect to hit great golf shots out on the golf course. I try to tell my students this especially when they get overly concerned about their golf swing technique.

Playing target golf consists of focusing in on your target and where you want the golf ball to go. Too much focus on your golf swing can lead to overanalysis and you may start trying to steer the golf ball too much. Thoughts about your target and maintaining good tempo in your swing can help you perform better on the golf course.

Since you've worked on your swing technique on the driving range, you don't need to worry about it too much as it will have naturally started to blend itself in when you are actually playing golf. Then on the course you can focus on where you want your golf shots to go and make good golf swings with smooth tempo and balance.

Play Target Golf And Hit More Fairways And Greens

When hitting your tee shots with your driver, it's helpful to pick an area of the fairway you are wanting to hit towards. Instead of having the whole fairway be your target, narrow your focus a bit and pick an area only about 5-10 yards wide. This makes you focus better and if you miss your target, there's a good chance you'll still be in the fairway.

With your approach shots to the greens, have a specific target, either the flagstick or a spot on the green where you want the golf ball to end up. Instead of trying to just hit the green, make your target more direct and you'll end up actually hitting more greens.
