Putting Tips For Reading Greens Like A Pro

...........

Reading greens is a skill all great putters are able to do well. Anyone can get good at reading greens and I will share a few helpful tips which can get you on the right track. Pay attention to the shape and slopes of the entire green. This will help you get more information about how your putt will break as it rolls towards the hole. Playing the correct amount of break is related to the speed you hit your putt. If you hit the putt too hard, it won't break as much as if you hit it more softly. Fast greens will generally have more break than slower greens. Uphill putts break less than downhill putts.

There is an art to reading greens, you can't measure it exactly and even the pros misread their putts from time to time. However, you can work on getting good at this and you will greatly increase your chances of making more putts. When reading a putt, it's helpful to crouch down behind your ball behind the line of your putt. Getting down lower will help you to see the subtle contours of the green more easily and you'll get helpful information about which way your putt is going to move as it rolls on the putting surface.

Once you have picked the amount of break you want to play, then you will aim your putterhead where you want the ball to start. If you think the ball is going to move a foot from right to left, aim your putterhead a foot to the right. You will setup and align everything so it is matching your putter. Your feet, hips, and shoulders should all be square to the same line as well. If your alignment is off with your feet or your shoulders, the putter will have a tendency to want to swing on the line of your body. Squaring everything up will promote a putting stroke which swings back and through on the proper path.
