Tips On Hitting Golf Trouble Shots
If you are hitting errant shots you may need to work on your golf trouble shots so you can escape a bad leave with minimal damage and as few shots as possible. Even the pros miss a fairway once in awhile. Everyone can have a bad shot now and then. Knowing how to escape well from trouble will help you keep your score respectable.
Access Your Situation
Gather as much information as possible. This includes looking at how the lie of the ball is, what your yardage is to the green or to a spot out in the fairway if you are just trying to advance the ball. If your ball is sitting down in deep rough, you may have to take your medicine so to speak and just chip or punch out into the fairway so your next shot is clear. If you have a reasonable lie, and an opening to advance the ball farther, then go for it.
The 7 Out Of 10 Rule
If you are hitting out of trouble and not sure about trying to hit a recovery shot, ask yourself if you could pull off the shot 7 out of 10 balls from the same spot. If you think you have to get lucky to hit your shot out of the trouble and could only do it once in awhile, I wouldn't recommend trying it especially in a tournament or competitive situation. It's always better to take the safer route and make a good bogey than trying to be a hero and making a triple bogey if things go wrong.
Controlling Your Trajectory And Shot Pattern Out Of Trouble
Knowing how to work the ball right or left can help you to hit around trees and get closer to where you are trying to end up on the green and near the hole. Playing the golf ball back farther in your stance and keeping your weight on your left side can help you hit the ball lower. If the rough is deep, playing the ball too far back in your stance isn't good because the ball can get trapped and you might not get it up in air enough to advance it out of the trouble or the trees.
