Correct Golf Target Alignment Will Help Get Your Swing In The Slot
The most common mistake the average golfer makes is having incorrect golf target alignment. If you want to play consistently and learn how to control your golf ball better, it's a must to get your alignment correct. There are a few helpful tips which will promote better alignment and make it easier for you.
You want the line of your feet, hips, and shoulders to all be slightly parallel left of your target line if you are right handed. Don't align your feet straight towards your target as it will be a closed stance and promote an over the top swing on your downswing. Everything must be parallel left in alignment in order to prevent any cutting across motions that are incorrect.
It's a good idea to have an intermediate target a few feet in front of you. This can be a spot of dirt or discolored area of grass, just something that is in between your golf club head and your target. A good habit is setting your club head down first to the ball and look at your intermediate target to make sure your clubface is pointing at your target. From there, you'll then get your feet, hips, and shoulders set so they are parallel to your target line.
Once You've Mastered Your Golf Target Alignment, You'll Be Much More Confident To Make A Good Golf Swing
If you want to align correctly on the golf course, you have to practice your alignment on the driving range. It's a good idea to lay a golf club down on the range pointing towards your target. Then simply align your clubface so it is parallel with that club. Next, take your stance and make sure your feet are parallel to the club as well. You can also take your golf club and put it across your shoulders and your hips. Then make sure it is pointing to your target or just slightly parallel left of your target.
There's nothing worse than the feeling of standing over the golf ball about to make a swing when you think to yourself, "I wonder if I'm aligned correctly." This infuses self-doubt and will take some focus off of making the best golf swing you can make at that particular moment.
It's good to have a plan for how to align correctly on each shot so you become able to trust your swing more and more. One thing that is helpful is having an intermediate target a few feet in front of your golf ball on the same line of your target. It could be a blade of grass, an off colored spot, or anything you can focus on to align your clubface towards it and consequently towards your actual target as well.
Most of the touring professional golfers have an intermediate target on their full swing shots to help them align correctly. This allows them to trust their alignment and make the best swing they can make. Try this tip and see if you can learn to trust your alignment better and hit better golf shots.
