By: The Golf Swing Genius
Golf swing tension is probably the single biggest killer for many amatuer golfers. Being too tight or tense will cause you to lose the fluidity and rhythm in the golf swing that is necessary to hit good golf shots consistently. Many golfers suffer from having too much tension or pressure in their golf grip. This also commonly moves up to the arms, especially the wrists and forearms.
When you are setting up to the golf ball, you want your arms to be extended, but not locked. This is very important the elbows should be close together but avoid having them stiff or too tight at the setup position. When you swing the golf club back, you want to complete your backswing by swinging the golf club over your right shoulder. If you have too much tension in your arms as you swing the club back, your backswing will be restricted.
In order for the golf swing to be in sync and work properly, there should not be too much tension in the body buy especially in the hands and arms. You want to hold the golf clug grip securely but not too tight. Just hold the club handle tight enough so you can hang on to it securely without it falling out of your hands or loosening in your golf swing.
Sometimes excess tension occurs from being too concerned about the results of your golf shots. It's helpful to try and make your best effort when hitting the golf ball, but if you are too concerned about the result of your shot, it may lead to unwanted tension.
Trying to force the golf club to swing or force it into the correct positions will lead to too much tension. You must learn to swing the golf club and let the natural swing speed generate power when hitting the golf ball. Sometimes the harder you try, the worse you end up hitting the golf ball. Golf is a balance. You want just the right amount of tension but not too much. It may take a little while to find that middle ground but once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to produce good golf shots consistently and much more easily.
