Correct Golf Swing Impact Position Will Produce Solid And Consistent Ball Striking

Good impact position is an important part of having sound swing mechanics. Once you've developed strong mechanics, you'll start to feel an effortless power golf swing more and more. When you make a good backswing, a good downswing will be easier to make. A big key is having your body, arms, and club all come through the ball together at the impact position.

There are several good keys in this picture. Notice how the weight has started to shift into the left side, but the golfer keeps his shoulders square pointing toward his target. Many amateurs make the mistake of opening their shoulders too quickly before they have made contact with the ball. The more open your body is at impact, the less power you will have coming through the golf ball. Keeping the shoulders square through impact will help to promote a more effortless and powerful golf swing that you can repeat consistently.

The impact position has several keys that will help to get the ball traveling straight towards your target. Your weight must shift back to your front foot at impact. The hips should be slightly open but the shoulders will remain square. Make sure your hands lead slightly coming into the golf ball.

If you get too far ahead of the ball coming into impact, you'll tend to hit thin shots. And if you're too far behind the ball at impact, you'll often hit fat shots. Staying centered properly as you hit the golf ball will produce consistent shots with the same trajectory. Often an improper impact position is what needs to be corrected in order to get you hitting the ball straighter and more consistent.
