Golf Swing Consistency For Lower Scores
I hear many frustrated golfers tell me they struggle with golf swing consistency especially out on the golf course. Without actually seeing your golf swing, I can give you some golf swing tips for common problems with consistency.
How To Develop A Consistent Golf Swing
Golfers who are consistent tend to have good swing fundamentals. Building a repeatable golf swing is possible when a golfer pays attention to their fundamentals and monitors them on a consistent basis. Great golf then happens from having good swing keys and understand your own golf swing well.
Every golfer has tendencies or bad habits that can move in and affect them from time to time. A golfer may have a tendency to lift or pick the club up from the start of the takeaway. This move will affect the rest of the golf swing and can cause other problems so it is important to identify it, be aware of it, and take the appropriate steps to fix it.
More Golf Swing Consistency Tips
Another asset to becoming a consistent golfer is to have checkpoints for certain parts of your golf swing. These checkpoints are what will allow you to monitor and always be in control of your swing. A lot of professional golf instructors don't teach these and it's probably the number one reason why lessons don't always work and why the golfer will go back to their old bad habits or pick up new ones.
I like to have checkpoints at the first part of the takeaway when the club is parallel with the ground, the top of the backswing, at impact, and in the follow through position. If these points of your swing are correct, there isn't much room for any other part of your golf swing to be off.
The checkpoints are simply knowing where #1) your club and #2) your body should be at these positions of the golf swing. An example is at the top of your backswing you want to have your club over the tip of your right shoulder and pointed parallel with your target line.
Each part of your golf swing is related to other parts of the swing. A golfer who has a poor backswing will likely have problems with their downswing as well. However, sometimes golfers will manage their bad habits by using them to conteract each other. This may work to some degree but won't usually allow you to reach your full potential and play the best golf you can.
