Golf Swing Basics For Great Golf

Learning Correct Golf Swing Basics Is The First Step To Better Golf

Learning correct swing basics will help you hit better golf shots more consistently. When I teach The Golf Basics to a beginner golfer, I first make sure they know how to grip the club, set up with correct posture, and align themselves correctly towards their target.

The basic golf swing consists of the backswing, the transition at the top of the swing, the downswing, and follow through. Once you understand these basic Golfing Fundamentals you'll be on your way to having a good golf swing.

The Backswing

The beginning of your swing will consist of your hands, arms, shoulders, and the club all swinging back together in a one-piece motion. The first part of the swing should not have any lower body movement. Once you've made it halfway back in your backswing, then you'll finish turning your shoulders to a full 90 degrees and your hips will go ahead and turn 45 degrees. Your weight will be shifted onto the inside part of your right foot and you will have swung the club up over your right shoulder.

The Downswing

The downswing will be an uncoiling of the same body parts as your weight will start to shift forward back into your left foot. You'll swing your arms down and try to get back to the positions you were in at the setup position. Your head will stay down through the impact area which will allow you to hit down on the golf ball nicely and allow the loft of the club to make it go up in the air.

Impact and the Follow Through

After impact, in a proper golf swing, you'll finish shifting your weight completely to your left foot and turn your body so that it is facing the target and you're up on your right toe.
