Golf Impact Tips For Better And More Consistent Contact
In order to have a correct golf impact position, you must do a few things correctly. Everything has to come through together and at the right time. Your clubhead, hands, arms, upper body, and lower body need to be working in sync together and all come into the golf ball impact position in proper sequence in order to produce more power and consistency.
Make sure to have your hands lead the clubhead coming into the golf ball slightly. This is especially important with the irons. In order to hit the irons solidly, you must hit down on the golf ball with them. The loft of the club will make the ball go up into the air. There is no need to try and lift or help the golf ball in the air.
You want to allow your weight to transfer to the front or left foot as you are hitting the ball at impact. Just make sure your upper body stays in line with the golf ball while you are hitting it. Getting your upper body too far ahead or behind the golf ball will lead to thin or fat shots.
Also, make sure the shoulders stay square as you hit the golf ball. Square shoulders at impact will help to promote a straight and more consistent ball flight. If the shoulders are open at impact, all that you have to hit the ball is your hands and arms which is a weak position.
Common Mistakes With The Golf Impact Position
Coming into the golf ball with your clubhead leading your hands as opposed to the other way around will cause bad shots. Sometimes people feel the need to try and help the ball into the air. They try to use their wrists incorrectly in order to do this. There should be very minimal wrist action while hitting the golf ball. You simply want to swing down with your arms and turn through the shot after you've hit the ball.
